Types of Domestic Infant Adoption
There are lots of ways that adoptive parents and birthparents come together to make an adoption happen. Here are the ways that Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) can help you build your family through domestic infant adoption:
- AGENCY INFANT PROGRAM – You work with LSSI to do a home study and complete adoption preparation classes. You prepare a profile of your family. Your profile is selected by birthparents served by LSSI and LSSI assists you and the birthparents in making a plan for adoption.
- IDENTIFIED ADOPTION PROGRAM – You come together with a birthparent before contacting LSSI or you come together with a birthparent through marketing and networking opportunities that LSSI assists you with. LSSI completes a home study and provides adoption preparation classes. LSSI also provides guidance, support and information to the birthparent and then completes the monitoring requirements after placement.
- AGENCY-ASSISTED ADOPTION PROGRAM – You may learn of a birthparent in another state or served by another agency who would like to make an adoption plan with you. (You may also get connected with a birthparent through a networking/marketing opportunity that LSSI assists you with). LSSI assists with a home study, adoption preparation classes, interstate paperwork (if applicable) and completes the monitoring requirements after placement.
- SPECIAL NEEDS ADOPTION – Occasionally, LSSI places infants with special medical needs or children over one year of age with adoptive families. If you are open to parenting a child with special needs or a slightly older child, you should let your adoption specialist know.
